Giving Sabres

"Giving Back" is about talking to those students who consistently give back to our community. We spotlight Sabres that go above and beyond by assisting others. These students dedicate their time to those less fortunate and understand the value of what they do.

Maria Mercado is currently "the most giving student" from the c/o 2016. Over the years she has volunteered in different facilities for over 1,000 hours. The majority of her hours were done at Miami Cerebral Palsy, where she worked with children that had disabilities like autism. Maria enjoys being able to help others and give to those less fortunate than her. When asked what she had learned from all the community service she has done, she eagerly responded, "I learned that giving is better than receiving; you feel more fulfilled knowing what you do is putting a smile on someone else's face. In giving my time to these people, I have received a valuable lesson that I will always remember."
